A TOTAL OF 18 GERMAN HI...OVERSEAS WORK OF GERMAN FIRMS INVOLVED IN HIGHWAY CONSTRUCTION SHOWED A LARGE INCREASE IN 1975 IN COMPARISON WITH EARLIER YEARS, REACHING A CONTRACT VOLUME OF 1163 MILLIARD DM. A TOTAL OF 18 GERMAN HIGHWAY CONSTRUCTION FIRMS GAINED CONTRACTS OUTSIDE EUROPE WITH AN AVERAGE CONTRACT VALUE OF 30.6 MILLION DM. LARGE CONTRACTS OF OVER 10 MILLION DM IN VALUE ARE THE RULE IN OVERSEAS WORK. THE PROPORTION OF INVESTMENT DEVOTED TO HIGHWAY CONSTRUCTION IN OVERSEAS WORK WAS, AS IN EARLIER YEARS, IN THE ORDER OF 20%. THE STATES OF NIGERIA AND SAUDI ARABIA TOGETHER, WITH A CONTRACT VOLUME OF 1089 MILLIARD TOTAL, MADE UP 90% OF ALL HIGHWAY CONSTRUCTION CONTRACTS. WESTERN EUROPE IS OF LITTLE SIGNIFICANCE FOR HIGHWAY CONSTRUCTION WORK IN COMPARISON TO COUNTRIES OUTSIDE EUROPE.
