Title: USE OF RUMBLE STRIPS AS WARNING DEVICES ON NEW ZEALAND ROADS
Abstract: A review of the international literature was undertaken in 1994 to identify the types of rumble strip available, situations where and how they are used, their effectiveness in reducing accidents and modifying driver behaviour, their adverse effects such as noise, and their expected service life. The available information was then interpreted to identify the suitability of rumble strips for New Zealand roads, the materials that might be employed and the cost of installation. As well issues which would need to be resolved by further research are recommended. (a)
