Abstract: The need for increased efficiency and better information in the allocation of funds for competing resources has been high on Councils' agenda. With the availability of economical software and high speed computers, Council embarked on the development of a computerised Pavement Management System as the first stage in the development of an assets register. A systems RAMS V2.0 (Road Asset Management System) was selected. The systems records selected road assets by location, description and quantity. An overall picture of the condition of Council's road assets can then be generated and presented graphically. The system can be used to model asset behaviour, to define optimum asset management and prioritize work requirements (A).
