Title: STREET MAINTENANCE TRENDS AND DEVELOPMENTS TRAFFIC AND PARKING
Abstract: This article reviews projects undertaken by the Fort Wayne (Indiana) Traffic Engineering Department to improve traffic safety in that city. They are given as examples of what can be done by applying proven engineering procedures in any community regardless of size or population. They are divided among three broad headings: engineering (planning, designing, purchasing of right-of-way, and construction of the street or roadway system, education (e.g. planned pedestrian and bicycles safety program, driver's training course for beginning drivers, and a driver improvement school initiated by the court), and enforcement (including the planned programs of the enforcement agency to apply selective enforcement tactics to bring about various city and state vehicle laws).
