Title: AFTER THE PRESIDENT'S HIGHWAY SAFETY CONFERENCE
Abstract: This article describes a Highway Safety Conference held in 1946, and highlights some of the Conference's accomplishments. An Action Program was adopted, composed of several elements, with recommendations made in regard to highway and traffic education, engineering, legislation, enforcement, accident records, motor vehicle administration, and public information. The goal of the Conference was to increase awareness and measures directed at improved traffic safety and reduced traffic fatalities. A number of federal and state efforts set in motion as a result of this Conference are discussed.
