Improvements include new or upgraded in-lane hardware and software, plaza hardware and software, transaction host hardware and software, a digital CCTV system, an online maintenance management system and a new audit system. The new system will include open-road tolling technology and automatic payment machines. The existing enforcement system will be replaced. The background to the upgrade and its procurement is outlined. Five teams of FTE experts were formed to develop the various components of the specification for the new toll collections system. The procurement phase started in 2006, with Raytheon selected as top-ranked bidder. A 10-year contract was negotiated for the TSR services. The contract includes seven delivery phases, with completion by 31 December 2010. More than 800 lanes will be modified with new equipment. To reduce complexity, the new system will incorporate a uniform lane configuration, a single-message format and standardised lane hardware and software.Read More
