Title: Kinetics of the reduction of molecular nitrogen by niobium(III) hydroxide
Abstract: The kinetics of formation of hydrazine and ammonia during the reduction of nitrogen by niobium(III) hydroxide at 284.5-334 K were studied; EN/sub 2/H/sub 4/ = 50 +/- 4 kJ/mole. It was shown that an increase in the concentration of KOH causes an increase in the rate of formation of N/sub 2/H/sub 4/ and a decrease in the rate of formation of NH/sub 3/. It was established that ..gamma.. approx. (Nb(III))(OH/sup -/), allowing the reaction to be considered as one of specific, base catalysis.
