Title: De Calvino à Vattimo. Esthétique, critique, théorie de la littérature
Abstract: Italo Calvino a contribué, par son œuvre narrative, mais aussi à travers la réflexion qu’il a menée sur la littérature, à redéfinir l’espace du romanesque : le roman comme entreprise totale (Se una notte d’inverno un viaggiatore), le roman oulipien (Il castello dei destini incrociati), la fable (la trilogie de I nostri antenati), etc. Calvino a surtout redéfini la littérature comme entreprise de connaissance, porteuse de modèles éthico-politiques : cette conception sera largement relayée par les courants contemporains de la philosophie italienne, qui mettront l’accent sur l’expérience esthétique, censée apporter de nouveaux types de savoirs. La notion de « pensiero debole », développée par Gianni Vattimo dans les années 1980, opposant, aux discours des sciences et au monopole qu’ils exercent dans l’épistémè moderne, l’alternative de l’herméneutique, à savoir un modèle cognitif ancré dans l’expérience esthétique du sujet, atteste la continuité de cette préoccupation dans la pensée de la fin du xxe siècle. L’affaiblissement de la métaphysique dans les théories philosophiques contemporaines irait de pair avec un affaiblissement théorétique des schémas cognitifs. Le rôle que Calvino prête au « mondo scritto » – de la confiance qu’il lui témoigne dans les années 1960 comme « sfida al labirinto » à la mise en question de ses pouvoirs et à l’exposition de ses limites dans Palomar en 1985 – participe de ce même mouvement : Calvino semble être passé de la croyance en un « arraisonnement » du monde dans et par l’écriture à une pensée attentive au « mondo non scritto », et dubitative sur ce que peut la littérature.
