Abstract: Artiklen er en oversigt over psykoanalysens historie i Danmark fra 1909 til 1989. Hovedvægten er lagt på de psykoanalytiske foreninger og deres forhold til de videnskabelige institutioner, som psykoanalysen kom i berøringmed. Der trækkes dog også linier op mellem psykoanalysen og kultur og samfundslivet i bredere forstand. Fremstillingen er disponeret i fire afsnit. Afsnit I omfatter perioden 1909-1929, hvor baggrunden for psykoanalysens opståen og dens modtagelse i Danmark diskuteres. Afsnit II dækker perioden 1929-1950 og er især præget af, at psykoanalysen blev inddraget i kulturradikalismen og seksualreformbevægelsen, men omfatter også beskrivelsen af de første foreningsdannelser og deres indbyrdes stridigheder.Afsnit III omhandler 1950erne og 1960erne og er især præget af, at den amerikanske ego-psykologi vandtfodfæste herhjemme, hvilket bla. afspejler sig i at Dansk psykoanalytisk selskab vandt optagelse i IPA, mens Dansk psykoanalytikerforening og Selskabet for dynamisk psykoanalyse blev kørt ud på et sidespor. En ny interesse for psykoanalysen kan spores i den litterære modernisme, men ellers er der stille om psykoanalysen i de år. Afsnit IV handler om psykoanalysens renæssance via studenteroprøret i 1968 og den fornyede interesse fra forskellige fag på universitetet. På den baggrund udviklede der sig en almen interesse for psykoanalysen, der foreløbig er kulmineret i 1980erne.
