Abstract: Abstract In the early period after Liberation, there were 1,054 Taoist temples and monasteries in Gansu with more than 690 monks and nuns. They mainly belonged to the Quanzhen sect. Those of the Zhengyi sect were allowed to marry and dwell at home and were therefore not counted.
