Abstract: Confucianism,Buddhism and Taoism jointly exerted much influence on Yunnan in the Ming dynasty.The Ming dynasty saw great popularity of Taoism in the minority areas of southwest China.The senior Taoist priest,Liu Yuanran,and his disciples popularized Taoism to an unprecedented stage in Yunnan.Some government-sponsored organizations for Taoism,such as the Bureau for Taoist Discipline and the Bureau for Taoist Meeting,were set up in Yunnan in the Ming Dynasty.According to the record about Lijiang in Xu Xiake Travels,the Naxi chieftain named Wood worshiped Taoism.All this has proved that in Yunnan Taoism existed in a multi-cultural context in the Ming Dynasty.
