Title: The Mediating Effect of Strategic Planning on the Relationship between Innovative Culture and SMEs Performance
Abstract: The ability to give good performance is necessary in the competitive international market, especially for small and medium enterprises (SMEs). SMEs are essential for the economic growth, and innovation and strategic planning play an important role in the performance of SMEs. Exploration of the relationship among SMEs performance, innovative culture and strategic planning leads to a theoretical framework that can assist in improving the performance of SMEs. The conceptual framework may guide SMEs about how to develop innovative culture and adopt strategic planning to get the desirable performance of SMEs in the competitive business environment. Quantitative research methodology was used for this research, and survey questionnaires were distributed to collect data from employees of different SMEs in Malaysia. The results showed that innovative culture has a significant positive impact on the performance of SMEs. Similarly, strategic planning significantly influences the SME performance. Moreover, research established the positive mediating role of strategic planning on the relationship between innovative culture and SMEs performance. Finally, this research provides agenda for researchers to gain more conclusive evidence about the innovative culture promotion in SMEs, and enhancement of strategic planning to improve SME performance in Malaysia.
