Title: Investigation of mental health of freshmen in a medical college
Abstract: Objective To investigate the mental health status of freshmen in medical college.Methods A total of 153 freshmen whose subjects were traditional Chinese medicine,pharmacy,and medical imaging were enrolled in this study.Symptom Checklist 90(SCL-90)was used to assess general psychological status of the students.The results were compared with national adult norm,national youth norm and national college student norm.Results 46.41% of the students were found to have psychological problems.The scores(14.67)of the investigated students were higher than national adult norm(12.96)as well as national youth norm(13.49),and lower than national college student norm(15.59).The students whose subject was traditional Chinese medicine had higher detection rate of psychological problems.Conclusion College students are at high risk of developing psychological problems.This investigation revealed that the psychological health level of the medical college students is higher than that of the national college student norm.
