Abstract: Andreas Sieß spricht sich für eine eigenständige Ästhetik virtueller Welten aus, die er theoretisch im Spannungsfeld zwischen Ludologie, Filmtheorie, Kunsttheorie und Computerspieltheorie verortet. So zeigt er auf, dass bisherige Entwicklungen, die das inhärente Ziel des Fotorealismus verfolgen, den Möglichkeiten von Virtueller Realität nicht gerecht werden. Anhand der Designströmung der »Low-Poly-Art« führt er exemplarisch vor, wie die Inszenierung der Zeichenhaftigkeit digitaler Umgebungen zu einer Emanzipation der Gestaltung vom Naturalismus führen kann. In der Synthese des Essays werden acht zentrale Fragen aufgeworfen, welche Herausforderungen und Möglichkeiten sich aus der remediatisierten Perspektive auf virtuelle Umgebungen ergeben und wie dieser Erschließungsprozess eine eigenständige Ästhetik formiert.
