Title: The expression of claudin-3 and β-catenin proteins in borderline ovarian tumors tissue and its clin-ical significance
Abstract: Objective To study the expression of claudin-3 andβ-catenin proteins in borderline o-varian tumors( BOTs)tissue and its clinical significance. Methods Eighty specimens of BOTs tissues re-sected through operation were selected as the observation group. Fifty-two specimens of malignant ovarian epithelial tumor tissues( the malignant tumor group),38 specimens of benign ovarian epithelial tumor tis-sues( the benign tumor group)and 25 specimens of normal ovarian tissues( the normal control group)dur-ing the same period were selected as the controls. The expression levels of Claudin-3 andβ-catenin protein were detected by immunohistochemical SP method and the correlation were analyzed. Results The posi-tive rate of claudin-3 expression of the specimens in the observation group, the malignant tumor group, the benign tumor group and the normal control group was 53. 8%,92. 3%,23. 7% and 4. 0% respec-tively. When the rate of each two groups were compared, the differences were all significant(P〈0. 05);the positive rate of β -catenin expression of the specimens in all the groups was respectively 52. 5%, 84. 6%,26. 3% and 4. 0%. When the rates of each two groups were compared, the differences were all significant(P〈0. 05);in the serous type specimens, the differences of claudin-3 and β -catenin protein expression positive rates between the benign tumor group and normal control group were not significant P〉0. 05 ),while the differences between the observation group and malignant tumor group were signifi-cant(P〈0. 05). The differences between the observation group, the malignant tumor group and the a-bove two groups were significant(P〈0. 05);in mucoid tissue samples, the differences of claudin-3 and β -catenin protein expression positive rates between the benign tumor group and normal control group were not significant( P〉0. 05 ),while the differences between the observation group and malignant tumor group were significant(P 〈0. 05). The differences between the observation group, the malignant tumor group and the above two groups were significant(P 〈 0. 05);the correlation analysis showed that the expression of claudin-3 andβ-catenin protein was negatively correlated with the TMN stage(r = - 0. 261,- 0. 234),and positively correlated with the peritoneal situation(r = 0. 264,0. 298);there was positive correlation of the expres-sion of claudin-3 protein with β-catenin protein(r = 0. 376). Conclusions The expression of claudin-3 and β-catenin protein is correlated with the malignant degree of the tumor. The higher the malignant degree is,the higher the positive expression rate is. The expression levels of claudin-3 and β -catenin protein in BOTs tissue are higher than that in the benign tumors and lower than that in the malignant tumors. In BOTs tissues, the expression levels of claudin-3 and β -catenin protein shows a correlated trend and were associ-ated with the progression of disease in certain degree. For the diagnosis of BOTs,the combined deteetion of claudin-3 and β-catenin has supporting effects and can be used for the treatment of reference.
