Title: Comparative study and imaging diagnosis of aneurysmal bone cyst
Abstract: Objective To analyze the imaging features of X-ray, CT and MRI of the aneurysmal bone cyst ( ABC), in order to improve the diagnostic level of ABC. Methods The imaging findings of 30 patients with pathologically proved aneurysmal bone cyst were retrospectively analyzed. All of the 30 cases underwent X-ray and plain CT scans, and 9 cases underwent MRI. Results The lesion located at long bones in 16 cases, and at vertebra in 9 cases, short bone and fiat bone in 5 cases. Cortex expansion presented in 25 cases by X-ray, internal septations were seen in 20 cases, pathologic fracture in 5 cases. There was obvious liquid-liquid level in 21 cases, the CT value in up part was lower than that in low part, and 10 cases showed calcification or ossification. MR images showed polycystic appearance with low intensity in T1WI and high intensity in T2WI, 7 cases showed liquid plane. Conclusions X-ray is useful to reveal the whole structure of the lesions of ABC, CT and MRI are superior to X-ray in showing the soft tissue and inner structures. Combination of the three methods is helpful for improving the diagnostic accuracy of ABC.
