Title: A grid-based method for the automatic generation of two-and three-dimensional finite element meshes
Abstract: This dissertation reports the research that was undertaken to develop a method for the automatic generation of two- and three-dimensional finite element meshes. The aim is to reduce the data preparation cost for finite element analyses. Objects to be meshed are assumed to be bounded by straight edges or planar faces. The published mesh generation methods are reviewed and classified into seven major approaches. A comparison of these approaches indicated that the most promising approach for the generation of quadrilateral/brick elements is the grid-based approach, where a rectangular grid is superimposed upon an object so that internal rectangular elements are readily obtainable.Link to location of paper model is listed below.
