Title: Expression of Cyclooxygenase-2(COX-2) in Cancer Tissues of Early Stage Invasive Cervical Squamous Cell Carcinoma
Abstract: [Purpose] To explore the clinical significance of cyclooxygenase-2(COX-2) expression in tumor tissues of 158 cases with early stage cervical squamous cell carcinoma. [Methods] Immunohistochemical assay (EnVision method) was used to detect COX-2 in all specimens, including 158 invasive cervical squamous cell carcinoma and 100 normal cervices. [Results] The overall positive expression rate of COX-2 in cervical cancer (55.70%,88/158) was higher than that in normal cervix(0/100)(χ2=84.527,P=0.000). In univariate survival analysis, positive COX-2 expression related to staging, deep stromal invasion and lymph vascular space involvement (P 0.05). The intensity of expression of COX-2 in cervical cancer did not relate to age, lymph node metastasis,occurrence/metastasis,tumor differentiation and tumor size(P0.05). [Conclusion] Postoperative adjuvant treatment should be considered for the cases of COX-2 positive expression with early stage cervical squamous cell carcinoma.
