Title: An analysis on fertilization maternal mortality in a period from 2001 to 2003 in Shantou city
Abstract: Objective: To learn fertilization maternal mortality status in our city and analyse risk factors of maternal death to provide a basis for interventions, so as to improve maternal health. Methods: Through quality control and conclusive proof of death, we analyzed the data from Report Forms of Maternal and Child Health Statistics, Fertilization Maternal Mortality Card, Missing Report Questionnaire and Urban Pregnant and Parturient Women Death Monitoring obtained from the tertiary health care networks in a period from 2001 to 2003 in Shantou city. Results: The fertilization maternal mortality in the period from 2001 to 2003 in Shantou city were 16.10, 14.04, and 13.97 per one hundred thousand respectively. The first three causes of the death were orderly obstetric hemorrhage, amniotic fluid embolism and pregnancy-induced hypertension. Of which, the fertilization maternal mortality in extrinsic population of the city accounted for 50 percent of overall mortality rate. Conclusion: In 3 years of period, there was a decrease tendency in fertilization maternal mortality year by year. Among all causes of death, obstetric hemorrhage was in first place. And the fertilization maternal mortality in extrinsic population was comparatively higher. Therefore, to intensify meassures dealing with extrinsic pregnant and parturient women health management and to improve emergency techniques for obstetric hemorrage should be emphasized, so as to decrease fertilization maternal mortality rate effectively and enhance levels of both maternal and infantile health.
