Title: Analysis of maternal mortality in Suzhou from 1999 to 2004
Abstract: Objective:To analyse the risk factors for maternal death and obtain experience for reducing maternal mortality rate(MMR).Methods:A retrospective study was performed to analyse the data of maternal death from 1999 to 2004.Results:The average MMR in Suzhou was 16.9/100 000;The proportions of maternal death were going up among floating maternal and those who never accepted an antenatal car.The risk factors causing maternal death were ranked as follows: obstetric hemorrhage,amniotio fluid embolism,pregnancy induced hypertension and maternal cardiac diseases.The proportion in maternal death during or post-parturition was about 71.1%;The proportion in maternal death of birthing at home was 28.1%.Conclusion:MMR in Suzhou was close to that in developed countries.To further reduce MMR in Suzhou depends on improving the management of floating population.
