Title: STUDIES ON ESTERASE ISOZYMES OF CHIGGER MITES
Abstract: Polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis was used to examine the esterase isozymcs of five adult chigger mites including Leptotromlidinm rubellum, L. dcliense, L. scutellare, L. pallidum and Odontacarus malestieus and especially L. rubetlum in different developnicinal stages. The zymograms of the adult mites of the five species differ in the numbers of bands and enzymic activities. The zymograrns of L. rubellum in different developmental stages arc similar, but the number of bands increases from egg to aduit stage. The results show that esterase isozymes can be used in mite classification; they change in different stages of ontogenesis, and comparison can only be made in the same developmental stage.
