Title: Family Employment and Subjective Well-being in Rural Areas: The Gender Effect of Spouse Informal Employment Based on Rural Economic Development
Abstract: Informal employment (i.e., work that is insecure and uncertain, often low-paying, and in which the risks of work are shifted from employers and the government to workers) has emerged as a serious concern for individuals and families and underlies many of the insecurities that have fuelled recent populist political movements. The expansion of rural financial scale contributes to rural economic development, but only depends on the conversion ratio of savings and investment and the efficiency of investment output. In short, the role of rural finance in promoting China's agricultural economic development cannot be generalized. Vigorously developing innovative rural financial institutions and avoiding blood loss of funds in the process of rural economic development are the key to the future development of rural finance and the healthy development of rural economy. When divided by gender, the negative impact of the husband’s informal employment on his wife’s subjective well-being is more significant. Not merely because of the traditional Chinese concept that men are in charge of making money and women are in charge of taking care of the family, as well as gender discrimination in employment in the labor market.
