Title: A.13 Non-cardiac complications after open-heart surgery with cardiopulmonary bypass
Abstract: Results: Group I had 61 patients while Group II had 139.There were 7 positive outcomes: 6 suspected and 1 confirmed MI, 1 of which was in Group I and 6 in Group II.Hypertension, diabetes, cardiac disease and peripheral vascular disease were all associated with an abnormal ECG (p < 0.05).20 patients received cardiology consults, resulting in 9 echocardiograms.2 patients with positive cardiac outcomes had wall motion abnormalities on echo.Statistical analysis showed no significant relationship between abnormal ECG (or any specific ECG abnormality) and outcome(p =0.68).Wallmotionabnormalities on echocardiogram did show an association with positivecardiac outcome(p < 0.05).Discussion: While wall motion abnormalities on echocardiogram did prove to be an independent risk factor for an adversemyocardial outcome, our ongoingstudycastsdoubt on the idea that the resultsof a preoperative ECG alone can be used to predict an adverse cardiac outcome in the perioperative period.
