Abstract: Over the last decade, there have been significant efforts to develop Ni-free biomedical shape memory and superelastic alloys composed of less-toxic and allergy-free alloying elements. The effects of alloying elements on martensitic transformation behavior of Ti alloys are extensively investigated, and many kinds of alloys have been found to exhibit shape memory effect and superelasticity. The shape memory and superelastic properties of Ti-based alloys are overviewed in this chapter. The effects of alloying elements on microstructure and superelastic properties of Ti-Nb alloys are particularly reviewed. Several key issues on Ti-Mo-, Ti-Ta-, and Ti-Zr-based shape memory alloys are also discussed.
