Abstract: O titulo do volume 20, numero 2, da Alea: Estudos Neolatinos alude evidentemente, e em primeiro lugar, ao curso que Roland Barthes ofereceu no College de France em 1977. Nele abordava uma serie de topicos para pensar sobre uma vida nao fascista, em que a palavra nao tivesse como objetivo capturar o outro. A essa origem primeira soma-se a 27a Bienal de Sao Paulo, realizada em 2006, que a modo de homenagem e como eixo curatorial, utiliza o titulo do curso de Barthes. O esquema dessa bienal, curada por Lisette Lagnado, interpelou as representacoes nacionais e afi rmou a arte como uma linguagem que atravessa fronteiras. Tratava-se de dilui-las num momento historico de relativo otimismo para a America do Sul. O curso de Roland Barthes e a 27a Bienal serviram de inspiracao para um seminario de doutorado que oferecemos na Universidade Nacional de La Plata em 2014. Ali, a pergunta “como viver junto” comecou a congregar uma serie de refl exoes que procuravam problematiza-la a partir de diversos eixos tematicos e teoricos. Sua insistencia soava cada vez mais urgente e incerta, num mundo que comecava a mostrar signos eloquentes de adentrar um caminho de escuridao. Os desastres ambientais, as migracoes forcadas, as crises economicas nos faziam perguntar que tipo de comunidade era possivel imaginar em tempos de hegemonia neoliberal, e o que tinham a literatura e a arte para dizer sobre os imaginarios comunitarios.
