Abstract: The Care Quality Commission has published several practical solutions that it says can help manage the ongoing trend of increased demand in emergency departments, but it urges systemwide action to make sure that hospitals are better prepared next winter.1
The independent regulator of health and social care in England says that action is needed now to tackle pressures on emergency departments and keep patients safe. As of April 2018, 4% of urgent and emergency services were rated inadequate, 46% required improvement overall, and 8% of services were rated inadequate for safety.
