Abstract: Dans l'historiographie sur le Grand Tour, un mythe s'est forgé selon lequel les ressortissants britanniques vivent à l'étranger en vase clos, sans contact réel avec la population locale. Les femmes, dont le séjour est relaté par des lettres ou à travers des récits de voyage, viennent contredire cette vision réductrice. Membres de l'aristocratie, de la Gentry ou même des classes moyennes, les voyageuses démontrent une expertise dans l'art de la sociabilité, leur permettant de tisser des liens entre les différentes communautés et réseaux en présence.
