Title: Le vicomte Centulle V (1058-1090) et la sauveté d’Oloron
Abstract: À la fin du XIe siècle, Centulle V, comte de Bigorre et vicomte de Béarn, concède un for à la cité d’Oloron dont l’un des articles fait référence à une sauveté. Cet article pose dans un premier temps le problème de la traduction topographique de cette dernière. Grâce notamment à l’identification des deux lieux mentionnés dans le for, il apparaît que le périmètre de sauvegarde était loin d’être circonscrit aux proches environs de la ville comme cela avait été avancé jusqu’ici. Le contexte dans lequel cette sauveté a vu le jour et les objectifs du vicomte qui en a été l’instigateur sont ensuite examinés. Cette approche – conjuguée à une mise au point relative à l’épineuse question de la chronologie des vicomtes d’Oloron – éclaire les motivations politiques, vraisemblablement, et économiques, certainement, qui ont guidé l’action de Centulle V en faveur des habitants de la capitale du Haut-Béarn.
