Title: Study on changes of intestinal mucosal barrier function undergoing FOLFIRI chemotherapy for old patients with liver metastasis of colorectal cancer
Abstract: Objective Clinical study on changes of intestinal mucosal barrier function undergoing FOLFIRI chemotherapy for old patients with liver metastasis of colorectal cancer. Methods Bood samples were colleced before chemotherapy and on the d3,d5 afrer chemotherapy for bacterial culcure and microbial DNA detection,Polymerase chain reaction (PCR) was performed with target for 16S rRNA gene of most pathogenic bacteria, the plasma D-lactate before and afer chemotherapy were detected for studing permeability of intestinal mucosal. Results No bacterial DNA was detected before FOLFIRI chemotherapy, but it was positive in 5 patients (16.7%) d3 after chemotherapy and positive in 13 patients (43.0%) d5 after chemotherapy (P < 0.01).The blood culture was positive only 2 patients (4.8%) d5 after chemotherapy. The D-lactate in plasma decreased significantly after chemotherapy (P < 0.01).Conclusion FOLFIRI chemotherapy can damage intestinal mucosal barrier function, increase permeability of intestinal mucosal, cause bacterial translocating into blood. This is likely to be important causes of side effects after FOLFIRI chemotherapy.
