Abstract: This article examines the relationship between Romantic and Victorian poetry. It discusses the overlaps between Romantic and Victorian poetry, as evidenced by the appearance of Felicia Hemans and Letitia Landon in anthologies of Romantic and Victorian poetry; John Clare's writing of some of his greatest 'Romantic' poetry years after the death of Byron in 1824; and Swinburne's poems, which serve as revisionary meditations on the Romantic legacy. The poems of Matthew Arnold are also analyzed, as are many poems by other Romantic poets, including Tennyson, Browning, Clough, Emily Brontë, Hardy, and others.
