Title: Condensation of 3-Methoxydiphenyl Ether and Acetyl Chloride by the Friedel-Crafts Reaction
Abstract: Action of acetyl chloride on 2-methoxy- or 4-methoxy-diphenyl ether, under the presence of anhydrous aluminum chloride, gives diacetyl derivatives but, in the case of 3-methoxy-diphenyl ether, triacetyl derivative is principally formed and, similar to the case of 4-methoxy derivative, methyl radical of the methoxyl radical isolates, forming phenol.
