A conceptual frame of reference from software quality management is adopted. This conceptualizes the overall development process in terms of a life cycle model, with well-defined constituent development processes and development products. For each development process one can examine the inputs, transformations and outputs, and various characteristics of the process itself, such as the procedure used and resource consumption.
