Title: The Chinese Stenchaetothrips Bagnall (Thysanoptera : Thripidae) with descriptions of two new species
Abstract: The present paper deals with nine species of the genus Stenchaetothrips Bagnall collected from China. Among these, two species are reported from China for the first time, i.e. S. indicus (R. et M.) and S. tenebricus (Ananthakrishnan), and two species are described as new to science. Their distributions and hosts are given and a synoptic key to species is provided. All the specimens are deposited in the South China Agricultural University.1. Stenchaetothrips albkornus, sp. nov. (Figs. 1 - 3)Female: Length 1.2 mm. Head brown. Thorax with some brownish shade. Abdominal segments dark brown. Antennal segnents 1 - 2 grayish-brown, segments 3-5 yellow, but apical half of segment 5 and basal half of segment 6 with grayish brown, segment 7 brown. Fore wing grayish brown but unshaded in basal fourth. All legs yellow. Ocellar crescents red. Postocular setae Ⅰ and Ⅲ equal with interocellars. Metanotum without campaniform sensillae. Posterior margin of abdominal tergum Ⅷ with comb complete.Male: Body length 0.88 mm. Colour as in female. Abdominal sterna Ⅲ to Ⅶ each with a gland area.Host plants: Micanthus sinensis, and common bamboo.Holotype (?) , paratypcs: 3 (?) (?), Mt. Jianfengling, Hainan Is., 3-Ⅳ-1980, by Zhang Weiqiu; 2 (?) (?), allotype (?) , Longzhou Co., Guangxi, 15-Ⅶ-1985, by Pang Hong. This species is closely related to S. minutus, but the lattercan be separated by antennal segments 4-7 all grayish brown. Postocular seta Ⅲ longer than Ⅰ , metanotum with two median companiform sensillae.2. Stenchaetothrips cymbopogoni, sp. nov. (Figs. 4-6)Female. Length 1.15-1.20 mm. Body completely yellow. Antennal segments 1-5 and basal half of segment 6 yellow, the apical half of antennal segment 6 and segment 7 brown. Ocellar crescents red. Postocular setae Ⅰ and Ⅱ equal with interocellars. Metanotum without campaniform sensillae. Sides of abdominal terga Ⅱ to Ⅶ on posterior margin without dentate microtrichia and posterior comb of tergite Ⅷ absent.Host plants: Cymbopogon citratus; Miscanthus sinensis.Holotype (?) , paratypes 7 (?) (?) , Zanxian Co., Hainan Is., 16-Ⅴ -1978, by Zhuo Shaoming. This species is closely related to S. indicus, but the latter can be separated by sides of abdominal terga Ⅱ to Ⅶ on posterior margin with dentate microtrichia, and posterior comb of tergite Ⅷ present.
