Title: Study on the relationship between hyperhomocysteinemia and ischemnic cerebralvascular diseases
Abstract: Objective To study the relationship between serum homocysteine(Hcy) level and ischemic cerebrovascular disease. Methods The samples in this study were 123 patients with ischemic cerebrovascular disease and 34 normal controls.123 pationts were divided into two groups. They were transient ischemic attack(47 cases)and cerebral infarction(76 cases).Fast serum Hcy concentration was measured by high-performance liquid chromatography method. Results ①The mean serum homocysteine level was markedly higher in patients with cerebral infarction and TIA than in normal controls (P0.05).Cerebral infarction group was markedly higher than TIA group (P0.01). ②There was no relationship between serum homocysteine level and plasma lipid level in patients with ischemic cerebrovascular disease.③We found positive correlation between arterial tension level and serum Hcy level(r=0.44,P0.05). ④Serum Hcy level was most remarkably decreased after six weeks treatment with folic acid(FA),vitamin B6 and B 12 . Conclusion Hyperhomocysteinemia is an independent risk factor for ischemic cerebrovascular disease.Heredity and absence of FA,B6 and B 12 are possibly important mechanism of hyperhomocysteinemia.
