Title: The investigation on AIDS prevention knowledge and high risk behavior among community drug users in 400 cases in Jinniu district of Chengdu
Abstract: Objective To evaluate the awareness status of AIDS prevention knowledge and the characteristics of high risk behaviors among drug users in Jinniu district of Chengdu so as to provide guidance for the AIDS intervention in the area.Methods Subjects visiting the needle/syringe exchange center were investigated by trained investigators using the uniform questionnaire adopted by AIDS surveillance sentinel in the whole country.Datas were input through Epi Data 3.02 and analyzed using SPSS11.5.Results The overall awareness rate about AIDS prevention information among community drug users was 46.81%,much lower than the goal established by the Chengdu municipal government.Besides,these subjects′ knowledge about the route of AIDS transmission was not comprehensive.The prevalence of sharing needle/syringe was rather high,yet the rate and frequency of using condom during sex activity was relatively low.However,AIDS-related service received by the drug addicts had all surpassed 90%.Conclusion Effective measures should be adopted according to the deficiency of AIDS prevention knowledge and high risk-related behaviors of the drug users,in order to enhance the AIDS education and further improve AIDS intervention among them.
