Title: The value of ultrasonic elastography strain ratio in differentiating benign from malignant thyroid nodules
Abstract: Objective To explore the value of strain ratio(SR) in differentiating benign from malignant thyroid nodules. Methods Ninety-seven patients with benign(n=65) or malignant(n=32) thyroid nodules were enrolled in the study. The SR of normal surrounding tissues to thyroid nodules was calculated by ultrasonic elastography, and SRs of benign and malignant thyroid nodules were compared with independent-samples T test, the diagnostic value of SR was evaluated by receiver operating characteristic curve. Results SRs of benign and malignant thyroid nodules were respectively 1.41±0.73 and 6.57±4.34,which had significant difference between them. The area under the curve was 0.982 for SR with elasography, took SR threshold of 2.73,the sensitivity, specificity, accuracy, positive predictive value and negative predictive value were 96.88%,96.92%,96.91%,93.94% and 98.44% respectively. Conclusion SR is an effective elasticity parameter and has good application value in differentiating benign from malignant thyroid nodules.
