Title: The value of strain ratio method in diagnosis of benign and malignant thyroid nodules by ultrasonic elastography
Abstract: Objective:To evaluate the accuracy of the strain ratio method in diagnosis of benign and malignant thyroid nodules by ultrasonic elastography.Methods:211nodules in 190cases were scanned with high frequency sonography and elastography, measuring the strain ratio(E2/E1)of normal thyroid tissue and mass organizational, the results were compared with pathological diagnosis accordingly. We established the Receiver operating characteristic(ROC)curve to analyze the accuracy of the strain ratio method in diagnosis of benign and malignant nodules and then determined the cut-off point for the strain ratio. Results:The area under the ROC curve(AUC)of strain ratio method in diagnosis of benign and malignant nodules was 0.902(95%CI,0.862~0.942).The strain ratio of benign tumors(0.59±0.17)was significantly higher than that of malignant ones(0.31±0.10),(P0.05).The difference between strain ratio method and conventional ultrasound was no significant(P 0.05),but the combined application of the two methods significantly improved the positive detection rate than one method(P 0.05).Conclusions:The strain ratio method has a high accuracy in diagnosis of benign and malignant thyroid nodules, and it is worth of application in clinic.
