Title: Improvement of Petroleum Oil Determination in Water by Ultraviolet Spectrophotometry
Abstract: As to the disagreement in the selection and determination of the standard oil with the result obtained from the infrared spectrophotometric method in the determination of the petroleum oil in water by ultraviolet spectrophotometry, the article discussed the feasibility of removing the oil in the animal and plant by using the mixed hydrocarbons in the infrared spectrophotometry as the standard oil and the magnesium silicate as the adsorption column. The result showed that the use of the mixed hydrocarbons as the standard material of the ultraviolet spectrophotometry is feasible, and the interference from the animal and vegetable oil can be effectively removed by the magnesium silicate adsorption column. The results determined by the ultraviolet spectrophotometry are well agreed with those obtained by the infrared spectrophotometry after the extractant is treated with the magnesium silicate adsorption column.
