Title: Study of Water-soluble Polysaccharose III. The Effect of Acrylamide on the Graft Copolymerization of Starch with [2-(Methacryloylox) ethyl]dimethyl(3-sulfopropyl) ammonium Hydroxide Inner Salt
Abstract: The graft copolymer of starch with acrylamide (AM) and [2-(methacryloylox)ethyl]dimethyl(3-sulfopropyl) ammonium hydroxide(DMAPS) was synthesized in aqueous solution using ammonium ceric nitrate/acid redox system as the initiator. The effects of various factors, such as the concentrations of ammonium ceric nitrate, catalyst acid, starch and monomer, as well as the temperature and time, on the graft copolymerizations of starch-AM-DMAPS and starch-DMAPS, were investigated comparatively. The performance of the graft copolymers applied as clay-hydration inhibitors in oil field drilling fluid was examined. In addition, the graft copolymers were characterized by infrared analysis and elemental analysis.
