Title: Correlation of Chronic Sinusitis and Asthma in Children
Abstract: Purpose To investigate the correlation between chronic sinusitis and asthma in children and to ana- lyze the effect of the treatment of chronic sinusitis on the control of asthma. Methods Two hundred and sixty children with chronic sinusitis combined with asthma were divided into 2 groups. The patients accepted the treatment for asthma a- lone(group A),or in combination with the treatment for chronic sinusitis(group B).The therapeutic effect and the cor- relation of the two diseases were analyzed. Results The total effective rates of chronic sinusitis and asthma in group A were 22.50% and 80.84% respectively, which showed a significant positive correlation(r =0.274,P0.01).While in group B, the total effective rates were 98.57% and 97.14% respectively with a significant positive correlation(r = 0.573,P 0.01). The effective rates of chronic sinusitis and asthma were both significantly different between the two groups(x~2 = 178.900,P 0.01;x~2 =44.581,P0.01).Conclusions The pediatric chronic sinusitis and asthma are correlated and interactive. It can lead to better control of asthma to treat sinusitis and asthma simultaneously.(Chin J Ophthalmol and Otorhinolaryngol, 2007,7:372-374)
