Title: COMMENTARY ON CRITICISM ABOUT PU SONG-LING BY JI YUN
Abstract: After 100 years' popularity of Strange stories from a Chinese Studio until the Qiannong time, Ji Yun, the editor in chief of the Four Collections of Books, not only presented his own Chinese classical novel Yue Wei Cao Tong Bi ji including five kinds, but also criticized the writing and its writer of Strange Storjes from a Chimese Studio from the viewpoint of novel theory. This act encountered retort fr om the followers of Pu Sung ling, thus formed the contention of novel schools in Chinese classical novel. It focused on the three aspects:writing theory, style theory and social functions of classical novels. The meaning of this contention lay in :It not only included the inexorable law during the development of Chinese classical novels, but also played an important role in the existence and development of Chinese classieal novel then.
