Title: Observation on curative effects of integrated traditional Chinese and western medicine on 60 children with severe measles
Abstract: Objective:To observe the clinically curative efficts of integrated traditional Chinese medicine(TCM)and western medicine(WM) on children severe measles.Methods:All cases were treated with general therapy,including inhaling oxygen,exhausting sputum,antiinfections,keeping the balance of water and electrolytes,the necessary symptomatic and supportive therapies.According to the syndrome differ classification of TCM 60 cases treated with integrated TCM WM group were divided into types of measles complicated by pneumonia(麻毒闭肺) and inward sinking of heat toxins(热毒内陷).Based on the conventionally general therapy,Xijiao Jiedu decoction (犀角解毒汤) for detoxification was used simultaneously.WM control group ( n =42) were treated with general therapy of western medicine alone.Results:The markedly effective rate and total effective rate in integrated TCM WM group were superior to those in WM group.In comparison between two groups the markedly effective rate was significantly different (χ 2=7 239, P 0 01),but there was not significant difference in total effective rate (χ 2=1 901, P 0 05).The times of eruption were (5 39±0 62) days in integrated TCM WM group and (6 25±1 04) days in WM group respectively.The difference was significant ( t =4 804, P 0 01).Conclusions:The treatment with TCM to eruption and detoxification for severe measles possesses superiority.The treatment with integrated TCM WM has the actions of supplement each other and learning from others′ strong points to offset one′s weaknesses meanwhile can highten the curative effects.
