Title: RESEARCH ON ANTIFREEZING COMPOUNDS FOR THE CHLORINE-CONTAINING DISINFECTANTS
Abstract: Objective To investigate the antifreezing compounds which can be used with the chlorine-containing disinfectants and their effect on the germicidal efficacy and toxicity of the disinfectant, in order to provide scientific basis for using the chlorine-containing disinfectants at low temperature. Methods Chemical analysis and suspension quantitative germicidal tests were performed in laboratory study. Results The average killing logarithm of Escherichia coli in suspension exposed to the 84 disinfectant containing 92 mg/L available chlorine for 8 min was 3.67. The germicidal efficacy was enhanced after adding the antifreezing compounds A and B. The 84 disinfectant alone could not kill E. coli and Staphylococcus aureus in -25℃ conditions in 10 min, but these two kinds of bacteria were completely killed in 10 min after adding the antifreezing compounds A and B to the 84 disinfectant containing 368mg/L and 1840 mg/L available chlorine respectively in the same conditions. Conclusion The 84 disinfectant has good and even enhanced efficacy in killing bacterium after adding antifreezing compounds containing ethanol and methanol as the main ingredients in both room temperature and -25℃ conditions.
