Title: EXPERIMENTAL OBSERVATION ON THE PROPERTIES OF CHLORINE DIOXIDE DISINFECTION SOLUTION
Abstract: The Chlorine Dioxide Disinfection Solution is a single-ingredient preparation. In order to know its properties, suspension quantitative germicidal test, capacity test, field trial and toxicological evaluation were used to carry out experimental observation. Results: The killing logarithm of Staphylococcus aureus and Escherichia coli in suspension exposed to the disinfection solution containing chlorine dioxide 100 mg/L for 5 min was 5.0 and that for Bacillus subtilis var. niger spores exposed to the disinfection solution containing chlorine dioxide 500 mg/L for 30 min was also 5.0. The minimal concentration in capacity test for E. coli was chlorine dioxide 200 mg/L. The killing logarithm of E. coli on the porcelain bowl, bamboo chopsticks and table surface exposed to the water solution containing chlorine dioxide 500 mg/L for 5 min was 3.0 and that of the natural bacteria on surface of cucumber was 1.40. The disinfection solution containing chlorine dioxide 1 mg/L caused reduction of coli-group count in water sample to 0 cfu/100ml. The water temperature, organic substances and pH value had certain influence on germicidal efficacy of chlorine dioxide in drinking water. The mouse acute LD 50 of the disinfection solution was 5000 mg/kg, so it belongs to non-toxic class. The result of mouse bone marrow polychromatic erythrocyte micronucleus test was negative. Conclusion: The disinfection solution has rapid, reliable germicidal efficacy, low toxicity and applied value for disinfection of drinking water, fruits and vegetables.
