Title: Effects of isoflavone and CMC-Na on body weight and blood lipids of ovariectomied rats
Abstract: Objective To investigate the beneficial effects of isoflavone and CMC-Na on obesity and blood lipids in ovariectomized rats. Methods Female 8-week-old SD rats were randomly divided into 2 groups and fed with different doses of CMC-Na. Each group was randomly divided into 6 groups according to body weight. There were sham control group (SHAM),ovariectomized control group (OVX),OVX with low-dose isoflavone (L-SI),middle-dose isoflavone (M-SI) and high-dose isoflavone (H-SI),and estrogen(EC) groups. All animals were allowed free access to high fat diet and water, and administrated with isoflavone, and then sacrificed 4 weeks later. Results Compared with OVX control group, rats' body weight were reduced in isoflavone groups. Serum TG,TC levels were reduced and HDL-C levels were increased in isoflavone groups. Body weight was reduced in high CMC-Na group. CMC-Na had a synergism effect with isoflavone. But there was no significant effect on blood lipids. Conclusions Isoflavone can reduce the body weight induced by OVX and improve blood lipids. CMC-Na can significantly reduce body weight, but there is little effect on blood lipids.
