Title: Screening of Mitochondrial DNA C1310T Point Mutation in Yunnan Type 2 Diabetes Patients
Abstract: Objective To explore the relationship between mitochondrial DNA mutation at position 1310 and type 2 diabetes mellitus. Methods We randomly examined 350 patients with type 2 diabetes and 225 nondiabetic control individuals without family history of diabetes. The presence of mtDNA C1310T point mutation was determined by polymerase chain reaction and restriction fragment length polymorphism(PCR-RFLP).DNA sequencing was carried out for confirming. Results The mtDNA mutation at position 1310 was not found in any of the patients and controls. Results were confirmed by DNA sequencing. Conclusion Our results suggest that the prevalence of the mitochondrial 12SrRNA gene C1310T mutation is exactly very low and it may be not a major cause of type 2 diabetic patients in China.
