Title: The expression of vascular endothelial growth factor and microvessel density in cervical carcinoma before and after chemotherapy
Abstract: Objective:To investigate the expression of vascular endothelial growth factor(VEGF) and microvessel density (MVD) before and after chemotherapy and the relationship between VEGF,MVD and Toptecan chemotherapy in cervical carcinoma. Methods:VEGF expression and MVD were detected in 108 specimens from 54 cases of cervical carcinoma before and after Topteacan treatment by means of immunohistochemical S-P assay. Results:The value of MVD and the expression of VEGF in adenocarcinoma were higher than in squamous carcinoma before chemotherapy(P0.05);The value of MVD in VEGF positive cases were much higher than in VEGF negative cases before chemotherapy(P0.001),there was an positive correlation between MVD and VEGF(P0.05);The value of MVD before and after chemotherapy were 76.22±31.25,52.22±32.56 respectively(P0.005).The positive rate of VEGF before and after chemotherapy were 51.9% and 22.2%,respectivly(P0.001);The value of MVD and the expression of VEGF in effective chemotherapy cases were higher than in ineffective chemotherapy cases(P0.05).Conclusi-on:In cervical carcinoma, positive expression of VEGF may play an important role in tumor angiogenesis.Toptecan can inhibit the growth of tumor vessels by decreasing the positive expression rate of VEGF.VEGF can improve the chemotherapeutic effect.
