Title: The relationship between carotid atherosclerosis and insulin resistance within ischemic cerebrovascular disease
Abstract: Objective:To evaluate whether extracranial carotid structure abnormality (carotid atherosclerosis) measured by Doppler ultrasonography is related to ischemic cerebrovascular disease (CVD) and insulin resistance (IR).Methods:There were 120 patients with cerebrovascular disease confirmed by cerebral angiography in this study, 50 cases of transient ischemic attack (TIA), and 70 cases of cases of cerebral infarctin. Then the patients were divided into two groups according whether having insulin resistance or not. Carotid stenosis were detected in all cases by Doppler ultrasonography. Results:The prevalence of carotid structure abnormality in IR group and not having IR group were 78% and 40.5% respectively. The difference had statistic significance (P0.05).Conclusion:Carotid atherosclerosis of ischemic cerebrovascular disease had correlation with IR. IR is one of the dangerous factors of ischemic cerebrovascular disease.
