Title: Epidemiological Analysis on Public Health Emergencies at Schools in Wuhan from 2004 to 2009
Abstract: Objective To study epidemiological situation of emergency public health events at schools from 2004 to 2007 in Wuhan city from 2004-2009,and to provide evidences for prevention and control strategies.Methods Descriptive epidemiology method was used to analyze the data of public health emergencies at schools from Emergency Public Reporting System in Wuhan CDC.Results Fifty-two public health emergencies over general grade(included) were reported in Wuhan from 2004 to 2009,and 39 of them occurred at schools,accounted for 75%(39/52),37 of which were infectious diseases outbreak,accounted for 94.87%(37/39).1770 cases were caused by infectious disease events,which accounted for 95.16% of all cases from public health emergencies at schools.Most events occurred from March to May and from September to November.87.18% of events occurred at city schools.Emergent public health events are rising by year from 2004 to 2009.Respiratory contagions including Rubella,Chickenpox,Mumps and Influenza were common,accounted for 94.59%,and continued over 2 weeks.Conclusion Respiratory contagion events were the major public health emergencies at schools in Wuhan,lasting for a long time,so it is difficult to prevent and control.It is necessary that the education and health departments actively cooperate,in coordination with paterfamilias,if want to prevent and control public health emergencies at schools well.
