Title: Stereotactic Unilateral Pallidotomy and Thalamotomy for Treatment of Hemidystonia
Abstract: Objective To investigate the curative effect of stereotactic unilateral pallidotomy and thalamotomy on hemidyslonia. Method Five cases of hemidystonia were treated by combined posteroventral pallidotomy and ventrolateral thalamotomy contralateral to the affected limbs according to the operative target localized by MRI and electrophysiologic recording with microeleclrode. Result The movement function of the involved limbs was improved in 5 patients with hemidystonia. Conclusion The stereotactic unilateral pallidotomy and thalamotomy are safe and effective method of treatment for the patients with intractable hemidystonia.
